West World

Feb 2nd, 2019 peter velkovtv

West World is the first TV series I have watched so far this year.
I have never seen the original movie/story it was based on.
I had no expectation or lets say unbiased expectation (definitely no high expectations)

I think the concept is great but the show did not revolve it that well. There are a couple of good hits and that’s it.

I’ve watch the two available seasons.Though I didn’t feel hooked - I’ll probably watch a 3rd season if there would be one, but it’s definitely not on my favorites list, I’ll watch it it there isn’t anything better to do, but there would probable be

The thing I hate most is, though there is a lot of killing, certain characters are surviving against odds

  • Overall 6 of 10
  • No Spoilers: No spoilers below, I swear :D

Why have I watched this

My decision was based on it’s high rating on IMDb

The Good

  • Sci - Fi
  • AI
  • Robots
  • Twisted human nature
  • Empathy

The Bad

  • Unrealistic / I’m not buying the story
  • Too set up
  • Side stories that don’t add much beside more episodes

Favorite Characters

Spoiler Review (a.k.a why I actually liked or didn’t like it)

It’s all fading very fast now, and probably I’ll primarily reference stuff that happened at the end of season 2. Either not much interesting was going on in the beginning or that’s just how memory works - we tend to remember recent thing and at some point when they become not so recent we forget them unless important

I liked the story of young William and Dolores at the begging and how it completely turned around at the end

Maeve trusting Lee (the phony story maker) to take her to her kid, because he knows the Park and how to get to the sector she needs to go. Oh come on she managed to enter the system and had access to so much stuff she could have download a freaking map or something. She caught him when he tried to betray her and could of just out him right there. At least they could have made it more plausible by making it such that hosts like her are not able to see certain things visible to humans like secret entryways scattered in the park and all, so she would actually need him

The whole Samurai/Ninja story felt irrelevant and just content fodder

Security measures are a joke for such a high tech corporation which is totally implausible

Akecheta (from the Ghost Nation) trying to help but actually appearing as a senseless raider come to rape/kill them. While later he’s totally abe to explain him self like the most sympathetic human being ever, and even had a small face time telepathic conversation with Maeve

The hosts can’t leave the park because they are programed so, and even have explosives in their spine that would trigger when they attempt to exist (and probably another dozen of fail safes). But in the end when they just wan’t to kill all of them - they need to go through all these hoops, even though they found it by chance, to patch up Clementine to broadcast a kill em all berserk signal instead of just activating this kill switch somehow. Besides what was the point anyway - the folks were peacefully marching to their own end, by going to the other world (and falling of a cliff)
